摘要:
基于布朗语料库和中国学生英语口笔语语料库，分别对“can”与“could”在标准英语中和中国大学生写作中的使用特点以及异同点进行了探讨。研究表明，在标准英语中“can”与“could”相比更常与第一、二人称代词搭配，否定形式更为正式；在中国大学生写作中，虽然“can”与“could”的区别并不明显，但“could”在否定形式上更为正式；与标准英语相比，中国大学生在这两者的使用上存在着过度使用人称代词复数形式、否定形式以及句法结构简单的特征。
Abstract:
Based on Brown Corpus and the Spoken and Written English Corpus of Chinese Learners 2.0, this research explores the similarities and differences in the use of “can” and “could” in standard English and Chinese college students’ writing respectively. The study shows that "can" is more often collocated with the first and second personal pronouns, and the negative form is more formal than “could” in standard English. In Chinese college students’ writing, the differences between them are not obvious but the use of "could" is more formal in the negative form. Compared with standard English, Chinese college students overuse the plural form of personal pronouns and negative forms. Besides, the syntactic structure is simpler than that in standard English.
